A TRIBUTE TO LOVELL ROBINSON
A wonderful husband, a loving father and greatgrandfather, a thoughtful brother, a giving uncle, an honorable son, a loyal friend, and most importantly..a faithful servant of God. His soninlaw, Reverend Willie Smith called him The Great One. Yes in deed He was all of this and more.
Lovell Robinson was born on July 2, 1932 in Collingston, Louisiana to the late Julia Mae and James Robinson. Even though he did not have a relationship with his biological father, Lovell said that he wanted to start a new legacy with his own family and that he did.
In his early years, Lovell Robinson was educated at the Little Flower of Jesus Academy in Monroe, and as a teenager, left to join the United States Army where he served faithfully for 20 years before retiring in November 1968. Lovell fought bravely for his country in the Korean War and earned The Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations Against the Enemy. While in the military, he had the privilege of serving in Guam, Fort Hood and El Paso, Texas, Ft. Polk, Louisiana and Germany. After his stint in the military, he worked for Ralph WilsonArt Company in Temple, Texas for 26 years before retiring again in 1994. While at WilsonArt, Lovell earned his Associates Degree at Central Texas College, Killeen, Texas.
In 1949, while stationed at Fort Hood, Lovell met and fell in love with the former Wilma Lee Bonner of Temple, Texas. Lovell and Wilma married on July 10, 1950 and would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on July 10, 2010. They had five children: Barbara, Curtis, Toni, Kindra and Terri. When asked to describe Lovell, most people would often mention his love for the Lord, his love for his family, his love of Westerns Shotem ups and without fail his trademark sense of humor. He often made his wife, Wilma, laugh until she cried. She said that his gift of humor helped keep their marriage strong.
Lovell and Wilma were inseparable. They would often take leisure drives together, pray together, travel together, talk together while sitting outside on their swing and enjoy together spending time and imparting wisdom to their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lovell said one of his greatest joys was being called Daddy Granddaddy. He loved his family with a passion.
After 19 years of marriage, Lovell gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Marlboro Heights Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member for over 41 years. He would often testify to how God changed his life. He served God with a humble heart. In December 1975, he was ordained a deacon by the late Reverend R. A. Abercrombie..having been chosen as a man of good report, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, and capable of using the office well. He later had the privilege of serving as deacon and trustee under the leadership of Pastor Shaun Moton.
Lovell went home to be with the Lord on April 16, 2010. He was preceded in death by his sister, Clara. He is survived by his wife, Wilma, his children and sonsinlaw, Barbara William, Curtis, Toni Willie, Kindra Ed and Terri Morris 14 grandchildren Ramone Lori, Landre Cynthia, Danielle Regina, Shannon Taurean, Willie Jr., Kristian Amber, Kelli, Evan, Ethan, Joseph, Mario, Taneeka, Niaya and Brittany 14 great grandchildren Jordan, Isaiah, Micah, Joshua, Joseph Jr., AShaunte, Jahmon, Elexus, Angelica, Davionna, Cynae, Amaya, Raynecia and Jailyn two sisters, Peggy and Pauline three sistersinlaw, two brothersinlaw, many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
