Alvin Sutton Sr.

March 9, 1928 — April 30, 2008

Alvin Reese Sutton Sr., 80, of Nolanville died Wednesday, April 30.

Services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday at Harper-Talesek Funeral Home in Killeen with Pastor Tom Henderson and Chaplain Rodney Kruse officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, 6:00pm- 8:00pm at Harper-Talasek in Killeen.

Mr. Sutton was born March 9, 1928, in Belton, to Alvin David and Maude Birdwell Sutton. He graduated from Belton High School in 1945. He was a member of the Texas AM Corp of Cadets and graduated from Baylor University in 1956. He entered into a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the age of 9. He was ordained into the Christian ministry in 1951 and pastored many Central Texas area Baptist churches during his 57 years of ministry. He was a teacher in Moffat, Belton, Nolanville, and Killeen for over 30 years, retiring from Killeen High School, where he taught Math and Drivers Education. During his tenure at Killeen High School, he was presented the prestigious award of the Texas Drivers Education Teacher of the Year in 1980. He loved to teach students to drive.

He lived on the Sutton Farm his whole life raising cattle and farming the land that his ancestors settled. He was a sentimental man, holding dear all that belonged to his familys legacy.

He loved people. You would find him leading the singing at a local nursing home or visiting ill hospice patients providing peace and comfort to all he encountered. Everyone knew Alvin Reese as a man of integrity and always held him in high regard, as did we, his family.

He is survived by his wife, Christine Elizabeth Ivey Sutton; his brother and his wife Don Carol Sutton; his children, Butch Melinda Sutton, Debbie Sutton Clements, David Alma Sutton, and John Mark Aurica Sutton; his grandchildren, Tim Staci Sutton Worden, Trae Bethany Sutton, Josh Holli Clements, Tim Jessica Sutton Munford, Evan Windy Clements, John Mark Sutton, Jr., and Natalia Sutton; great grandchildren, Garrett Worden, Rebekah Sutton, Reese Worden, and the future Avery Sutton.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Bell Baptist Association located at 1125 N. College Street, Belton, Texas, 76513.
