Annie Munn

July 29, 1945 — July 8, 2010

A celebration of life service will be held for LTC Ret. Annie Ruth Munn at Anderson Chapel AME Church located on 1002 Jefferies Avenue Killeen, TX at noon on July 16, 2010. Burial will follow at 3 P.M. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.

Annie was born on July 29, 1945 to Ethel and Willie B. McCoy. She grew up in the Columbus and Atlanta, Georgia, area. After graduating in 1966 with a diploma in nursing from Grady Medical Hospital in Nursing, she earned a BSN and MSN from the Medical College of Georgia in 1974 and 1975, respectively. She joined the United States Army in 1978 and retired in 1998. Her military assignments took us to Georgia, California, Maryland, Hawaii, Germany, and Fort Hood, Texas where she worked at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Darnall in the Department of Nursing. Because of her love for nursing and service, she returned to civil service work at Darnall Army Medical Center for another 10 years before retiring again in September 2009.

LTC Munn taught, trained, and served with a unique sense of humor that made others feel comfortable. Even though Annie was an independent woman, she relied upon God for all things. She loved taking cruises and traveling this beautiful world. She was a mother to many people and was wellknown and respected in her church and community. Annie was a faithful member at Anderson Chapel A.M.E. Church and loved her pastor, Reverend William M. Campbell, Jr. and church family.

Annie is survived by her son, Karleton J. Munn of Salt Lake City, Utah, and brother, Willie C. McCoy and his wife Della of New York, NY. While at Fort Hood, she developed a particularly close motherdaughter relationship to Calandria Hypolite Ret. SGM of Killeen, and a special motherson relationship with SFC Ulysses Chaney of Fort Carson, Colorado. She has numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Will and Ella Taylor, parents Ethel and Willie B. McCoy, Annie Mae and Alvin Munn, brother Andrew L. McCoy, and sister Ethel Louise Munn Bailey.

Visitation will be held in the HarperTalasek Funeral Home on Thursday July 15th from 5:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m.

The family wishes to thank all of the staff and doctors at Darnall, Scott White Hospital, and Scott White Continuing Care Hospital who took care of our mother with such loving care. A special thank you to Peggy Peterson, who was moms caregiver in her final days, and Hill Country Home Health professionals who compassionately cared for her. She loved and appreciated all of you.
