Mass of Christian burial for Retired Master Sergeant Archie B. Malleck, 71, of Killeen will be celebrated Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 10:00 A. M. at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church in Harker Heights with Father Richard ORourke officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery under the direction of Harper Talasek Funeral Home of Killeen.
Mr. Malleck died June 15, 2012 in a Temple hospital.
Archie was born on August 14, 1940 in Imperial, NE to Charles L. and Lorene Agnes Weskamp Malleck. He was united in marriage on Sept. 13, 1968 to In Suk Hwang in Seoul, South Korea. He served 20 years in the US Army, including 26 months in Vietnam, retiring as a Master Sergeant. His awards include a Bronze Star, an Army Commendation Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal and numerous other service medals.
Archie and In Suk made their home in Killeen raising their only child a daughter, Toni. After his retirement he continued to work as a postal clerk for another 22 years. He was a member of St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church in Harker Heights, TX, a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and founding member of the Harker Heights Council 9930 Knights of Columbus.
Growing up Archie was a tremendous athlete. He attended Idaho State and McCook College where he played football. He was a dedicated family man and spent his life in service to others. Archie loved sports of all kinds and enjoyed spending time with his family especially his two granddaughters.
Archie is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lorene Malleck, brothers Darrel and Robert Malleck.
Survivors include his wife, In Suk daughter, Toni Pelayo and her husband Michael of Sachse brothers, Kenneth Malleck and wife Nita of McCook, NE, Eugene Malleck and wife Marjorie of McCook, NE and Loyce Malleck and wife Marilyn of Denver, CO and two beautiful granddaughters Lauren and Michaela.
Visitation will be Monday from 6 to 8 pm with a Rosary at 7 pm at Harper Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen.
