Arnold Johnson

November 24, 1926 — February 10, 2017

Services for SFC (Ret) Arnold W. Johnson, 90, of Killeen will be Friday, 11:00 a.m. at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Randy Wallace officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Killeen Memorial Park.

Arnold died February 10, 2017 at a local hospital.

He was born November 24, 1926 in Austin, Texas to the late Joseph W. Johnson and Greta (Erickson) Johnson.
Arnold married the former Ms. Emma M. Swenson September 8, 1951 in Austin, TX.

Mr. Johnson was veteran of the U.S. Marines and the U.S. Army, retiring after 22 years after obtaining the rank of Platoon Sergeant E-7. During his time in the military he served in World War II with the Marines in the Pacific Islands and China with Combat landings on Petelin and Okinawa. While in the Army he saw combat duty in Korea and Vietnam. He served at many other duty stations before retiring April 1, 1967 in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey and relocating to Killeen.

While serving in the military he received many awards to include: U.S. Marines Good Conduct Medal, South Pacific Service Ribbon with two stars, World War II Victory Medal, Army Commendation Medal with two clusters, Good Conduct Medal with five clusters, Korean Service Ribbon with two stars and a Vietnam Service Ribbon.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bert Johnson formerly of Austin, TX.

Survivors include his wife, Emma Johnson of Killeen; Sons, Arnold Johnson JR. of Temple, TX and David Johnson and his wife Kathy of North Richland Hills, TX; grandchildren, Kristi Manley of Mckinney, TX; LeighAnn Voskuil and her husband Bryan of North Richland Hills; Patricia Johnson and her husband Bob Thompson of Jonesboro, TX; Olivia Lowe of Tyler, TX; Great grandchildren, Beckham Manley of McKinney, TX; Stella and Claire Marie Voskuil both of North Richland Hills, TX; one brother, Leonard Johnson and his wife Elvera of Fort Worth, TX; one sister, Bernadine Summersett of Pensacola, FL; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
