Funeral services for Bazel Dorman Blackwell, 92, of Killeen, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Church of Christ of Killeen with Boyce Edwards and Dan Carter officiating. Burial will be at Killeen Memorial Park.
Mr. Blackwell died Jan. 26, 2010, at a local hospital. He was born Sept. 8, 1917, at Brown Creek, Coryell County, the eighth child of Edwin and Ada Blackwell.
Mr. Blackwell was a lifelong resident of Killeen. He retired from civil service after 31 years, 26 of those years with the Fort Hood Fire Department. He also owned and operated many businesses in the Killeen area including used cars, real estate, a salvage yard, service station and a vacuum cleaner sales and service. He was active in the 1950s and 60s as a Boy Scout leader. Mr. Blackwell was a longtime member of the Killeen Church of Christ.
Survivors include Janie Mozelle Blackwell sons, Kenneth Jack Blackwell and his wife, Carolyn, of Troy, Joe Blackwell and his wife, Janita, of Bedford, Bill Blackwell, and his wife, Becky, of Ada, Okla., James Blackwell, and his wife, Bonita, of Sterling Heights, Mich. 10 grandchildren five greatgrandchildren one greatgreatgrandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 brothers and sisters, and a grandson, Chad Blackwell.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Killeen is in charge of arrangements.
