Carl Quackenbush

Funeral services for Carl Quackenbush, 84, of Harker Heights, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen with the Rev. Darrel Phillips officiating. Burial will be at Maxdale Cemetery. BRBRMr. Quackenbush died Nov. 22, 2009, in a local nursing home. He was born Oct. 31, 1925, in Warwick, N.Y., to Roy Quackenbush and Helen Jackson Quackenbush BRBRHe married W. Aileen Duncan on June 22, 1947, in Killeen, while serving in the U.S. Army at Camp Hood. While in the service, he received Bronze Service Stars for Rhineland and Central Europe and a Good Conduct Medal for the European, African, and Middle East Theater and a WWII Victory Medal. BRBRIn 1948 he was honorably discharged from the Army and he and his wife moved back to Warwick, N.Y., where he worked on a family-owned dairy farm. BRBRHe went on to work for the Village of Warwick as the superintendent of public works until he retired in 1988. BRBRHe was a member of the Bellvale United Methodist Church in Bellvale, N.Y. He was also a member of the Historical Society of Warwick, and a member of the American Legion No. 214 Nicholas P. Lesando for 53 years. Carl belonged to the Warwick Lodge FAM for 29 years and was an active member of the Raymond Hose Company fire department in Warwick. Upon retirement, he and his wife returned to reside in Central Texas. He will be greatly missed by all. BRBRSurvivors include his wife, Aileen, of Harker Heights; a son, James D. Quackenbush, of Schenectady, N.Y.; daughters, Sheila J. Griffith and Carleen Krieger, both of Harker Heights; brother, Claude Quackenbush, Ocala, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. BRBRHe was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
