Carol Patterson Sutton, 75, passed away May 31, 2012, at home in Harker Heights from complications of a long illness. She was born May 28th, 1937 in Princeton, Kentucky to Johnnie Glenn and Nina Alma Patterson, the oldest and big sister to Royce and Gerry Patterson. Her childhood was spent in Kentucky among her many cousins until after World War II when the Army sent Johnnie and his family first to Japan and finally to Killeen Base, where Carol graduated from Killeen High School in 1955.

She married Tommy Hodges in 1956, and within a few years they were joined by sons Alan, Paul, and David. After she and Tommy divorced, Carols love of travel took her to Alaska to work as a secretary for an oil company on the north slope of Alaska, but eventually she came back to Texas in the mid1980s so that she could be closer to what would become six beloved grandchildren. In 1995, at a high school reunion, she became reacquainted with former classmate Robert Don Sutton they married within a few short months and would have celebrated their 17th anniversary in November.

In addition to her sense of humor and big laugh, Carol was known for her love of clothes, jewelry, and just about anything else QVC sells. She was generous and loved giving gifts to family and friends. Her granddaughters loved to play among her jewelry boxes all her grandchildren loved the mystery and excitement of her Gift Closet, where all sorts of wonderful things were stored.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents Johnnie in 1986 and Alma in 2008 and her son, David Hodges, in 2010. She is survived by her husband, Robert Don Sutton of Harker Heights sons Alan Hodges of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Paul Hodges and wife Laurie, of Buda, Texas stepsons Ronald Sutton and wife Kim of Fredericksburg, Texas, Randy Sutton and wife Lauren of Harker Heights, Texas, and Paul Sutton and wife Windy of Frisco, Texas stepdaughter Laura Sutton former daughterinlaw Lorah Hodges brothers Royce Patterson and wife Jody of Austin, Texas, and Gerry Patterson and wife Ines of Georgetown, Texas grandchildren Austin Hodges, Robyn Willis and husband Kyle, Travis Hodges, Asia Hodges, Allison Hodges, and Sam Hodges beloved cousins Joyce Dorroh and husband Billy Joe, Mary Lee Williams and Betty Martin, among numerous others and extended family, including caregivers Victoria Holt and Kim Tillis.

Services will be held on Monday, June 4, at 1:00 PM at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas, with the burial to follow. Visitation will be held Sunday, June 3rd, from 5:00 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, or Scott White Hospice.
