Funeral services for Virginia Lichtenberger of Killen will be at 10:00am Wednesday January 21, 2015 at First United Methodist Church in Killeen. Burial will follow in Killeen City Cemetery.
Ms Lichtenberger died January 16th in Harker Heights. She was born in rural Washington County Kansas on October 18, 1919 to Ray and Alberta Justis. Virginia went to school in Linn, Kansas and finished Normal School and was awarded her Elementary School Certificate in 1942. She taught elementary school in Kansas and Oregon. Virginia and her family lived in Fairbury, Murdock, and Lexington, Nebraska before moving to Killeen in 1987.
With a strong need to be active she joined the Bob Gilmore Senior Center, where she helped cook meals; was active in the "Sew n Sews" and the Project Linus groups. During her many years as a member of the center she was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award for her service. It was during this time she went back to work for the City of Killen until she finally retired in 1998.
Virginia was proceed in death by her parents and two brothers, Charles and Lowell Justis. She is survived by her children Rob and Linda Lichtenberger of Harker Heights and Randy and Cheryl Lichtenberger of Russellville, Arkansas. Her grandchildren Kerry and Lee Rodriguez of Belton and Daniel and Trudy Lichtenberger of Russeville, Arkansas and one great grand daughter Lauren Rodriguez.
Visitation will be Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Harper Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen from 6 till 8pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to The Killeen/Temple Project Linus Group.
