Services for David Alvin Cawthorn, 53, of Killeen, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Killeen. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, with full military honors. Mr. Cawthorn died Oct. 14, 2011. He was born Nov. 19, 1957, in Louisville, Ky., to Russell and Florence Cawthorn. He married Deloris Vinson on Nov. 19, 1980, in Junction City, Kan.
Mr. Cawthorn enjoyed the sport of racing his favorite pastime was attending NASCAR events and participating in the NASCAR experience at the Texas Motor Speedway. Mr. Cawthorn was a great collector of anything NASCAR.
A dedicated soldier, he served 20 years in the U.S. Army as a military policeman, retiring in 1997 while stationed at Fort Hood. He continued his service as a civilian police sergeant in the Travis County Sheriffs Office. In November 2003, he returned to Fort Hood and continued his service as a Defense Department police sergeant with the Directorate of Emergency Services, holding the rank of lieutenant at the time of his death.
Mr. Cawthorn was preceded in death by his father, Russell A. Cawthorn and mother, Florence L. Cawthorn.
Survivors include his wife, Dee Cawthorn his sister, Janet Darlene Johnston uncles and aunts, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends and coworkers.
With all of this in mind, we celebrate the life of David Alvin Cawthorn.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements.
