Ret. CW3 David Arthur Masters passed on, surrounded by family, on September 21, 2011. Born on March 26, 1932, David was the youngest of 8 children of Daniel and Mary Masters. He treasured memories of growing up in Mannington, WV playing football, fishing, and spending time with family. In 1948, he joined the US Army, where he began an extensive and decorated military career as a true American soldier. He served his country in both the Korean and Vietnam War as he rose through the ranks to ultimately become a Chief Warrant Officer 3. In 1971, at his last duty station of Ft. Hood, TX, he chose to retire after 23 years of distinguished service.
Not being one to sit idle for long, David pursued a second career after retirement. As an insurance agent he shared his vast knowledge and compassion with the clients of American National Life Insurance Company for another 10 years. Dave was a proud Master Mason with the Killeen Lodge 1125, a 32nd degree Waco Scottish Rite Mason, and a Karem Shriner. He was also a faithful member of the American Legion Post 223 and VFW Post 3892. For the past 49 years, David lived in the KilleenHarker Heights area with his wife of 48 years, Virginia Masters, whom he has now joined in eternal happiness.
There will never be another man like David Masters. We are blessed with the memories of his laughter, his wry sense of humor, and his innate ability to make you laugh even through the worst of times. As evidenced by his lifetime of achievements, when Dave put his mind to something, there was nothing that could stop him from achieving his goal. His absence will be felt forever by all who were fortunate enough to know and love him. The family extends their gratitude to the ICU staff at Metroplex Adventist Hospital for all their care and compassion during Daves last days.
Dave is survived by his 3 children, his daughter, Dava Wilks and husband Don of Harker Heights, TX, his daughter, Joyce Masters of Harker Heights, TX, and his son, Michael Poundstone and wife Tok of Abilene, TX 8 grandchildren, Deanna, Melinda, Jackie, Becky, Michelle, Victor, Michael Jr., and Phillip, 17 great grandchildren, his brother, Howard Masters and his wife Dory of Mannington, WV and numerous nieces and nephews in Mannington, WV.
