Obituary

Funeral services for Domenic Anthony D’Alessio, 95, of Killeen, will be at 8:30am Monday April 27th at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen. Burial will be with his beloved late wife at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, TX at 10:00am. Domenic died Friday April 17th peacefully in Bastrop, TX with his family by his side.

He was born Domenico Antonio D’Alessio on 5 November 1930, in East Liberty, Pittsburgh, PA to John A. D’Alessio and Angiolina Iatalese-D’Alessio. Domenic was a first generation American of an Italian immigrant. He and his family have resided locally since 1966.

On 23 September 1952, he married the former Dorothy Genell Arms, his beloved and faithful wife of more than 68 years (17 days short of 69 years) in Cedar Hill, Tennessee. Dorothy died on 6 September 2021 of Alzheimer’s disease.

Domenic, a wartime veteran, served in the U.S. Regular Army from 1 December 1947 to 28 February 1969, retiring honorably after more than 21 years of continuous active Federal service on 1 March 1969 at Fort Hood, TX. At the age 16 years, he also served in the Pennsylvania ARNG from 17 June 1947 to 30 November 1947 as a “No. 1 Man” on a 105 millimeter Howitzer. Various stateside and overseas assignments included Artillery, Infantry, Army Musician for 5 years (as well as an Army Bugler), Personnel Sergeant and Personnel Staff NCO. His overseas assignments were in Japan, Europe (twice), Southeast East Asia (including Vietnam) in peacetime and wartime environments.

Following his military service, Domenic worked for the URS at Fort Hood, Universal CIT in Killeen; at the F.W. Woolworth Co. in Killeen, retiring from there after 15 years of service in 1986; and Action Pawn (Copperas Cove & Killeen). He was also employed by the AAFES, Main Exchange, at Fort Hood, TX from 18 May 1988 to 31 July 1998.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothy, parents, his brother Mario, and his sister Angelina. Survivors include two sons, Domenic A. “Tony” D’Alessio Jr. and his wife Kelly; Samuel N. “Nick” D’Alessio and his wife Darlene; one daughter, Antonette N. “Nicole” Willoughby and her husband Mark; and seven grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen. The family will receive visitors from 8:00-8:30am at the funeral home.
