A celebration of life for Donald William Harris, 93, will held at HarperTalasek Funeral home in Killeen, Texas Saturday March 29, 10:00 am. A time of visitation will be after the service until noon. Mr. Harris was a former principal of Killeen High School and long term KISD administrator passed away Friday, March 21 at his residence in Missouri City, Texas with Gussie, his wife of 70 years, at his side.
Don was a decorated veteran of World War II serving proudly with the 316th Troop Carrier Group. After graduation from the University of Texas Don dedicated his professional life to education retiring from KISD following over 40 years of service. He was first and foremost a loving family man who spent countless hours with his two grandchildren and was always there when needed by anyone in the family. His retirement years were truly golden with plenty of golf, family activities, quality time with Gussie and his tireless volunteer work. Don continued pursuing his passion for education with the Killeen Retired Teachers Association, achieved Legion of Honor status 40 years with the Kiwanis Club, was the 11th recipient of the Comanche Gap Medicine Man Award and was named along with Gussie as a Texas Volunteer of the Year for his support of the Harker Heights Library.
Don is survived by his wife Gussie of Missouri City, TX., son Mark of Sugarland TX, two grandchildren Kimberly and Jonathan, 3 great grandchildren, Kaia, Khloe and Jaylen all of Houston, TX along with sister Barbara of Galena, Ill., brothers Todd of Janesville. Wis. and Harold of Houston, Ga.
