Dora Ray was born June 14, 1927 in Andice, Texas to Oran Purcell Davis and Velma Lou Ray. She was joined in marriage to R. D. Chanslor on September 26, 1948.
Dora Ray (Dodie) was a lifelong resident of the Camp Hood/Killeen area. During World War II Dora Ray played on the Camp Hood Women's Baseball League. Dora Ray was an avid gardener, seamstress and excellent cook. Her Italian Cream Cake was a favorite. Dora Ray made many dresses for Donna and Creta for which she had to create the patterns herself when she was unable to find the ones the girls saw in magazines. Dora was a former member and president of the Maxdales Ladies Club. She was a member of the W.S. Young Church of Christ since 1947 and taught children's Bible classes.
Dora Ray is survived by her children Creta Bales and Donna Nicodemus, two grandsons; Joe Bob (Krista) Bales and Chance Bales and 2 great granddaughters; Emma and Jenna Bales all of Killeen and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Oran and Velma Davis, her husband R. D. Chanslor, her brother Oran Percy Davis and sister Judy Jackson
