Services for Edna Jean Smith, 82, of Killeen will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jimmy Towers officiating.
Edna was called upon by the Lord and returned to her heavenly home on February 5, 2017 in Killeen, TX after a long battle with kidney disease. Edna was born in Bennington, Vermont to Irene and Edward Brown. Her family moved to White Hall, New York where she became the first Majorette at White Hall High School. During her life she held numerous jobs as a waitress, baker, secretary, nurse and business owner. On June 18, 1993 she was presented the Distinguished Citizen Award by the Mayor of Pennsylvania. She lived North East for most of her life and later moved to South Texas (McAllen/Edinburg) and finally to Killeen, TX to spend her final years of retirement. Edna was united in marriage to Robert Smith on July 22, 2005. She was a very loving and nurturing wife and mother who was always around to help people in need. She cared deeply for her family and friends. Edna was actively involved her community as a K-Cop (Killeen Citizens on Patrol) and as a school assistant at Rancier Middle School from 1998 to 2001. Edna loved telling jokes or funny stories to make people laugh and enjoyed a good cup of coffee. In her free time she liked crocheting, writing, cooking, baking, singing, traveling, listening to music and hosting holiday parties. Edna was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. She also loved to watch food and cooking channels as well as church sermons on Sunday. Edna was blessed with a large and loving family. She is survived by her husband: Robert Smith, siblings: Edward B. of Vermont and Grace K. of California, children: Bonnie W. of Vermont, Claudia C. of Pennsylvania, Bambi B of Vermont., Keith B. of Vermont., Kimberly B. of Virginia, Wendy M. of Vermont, Thorne H. of Texas, Todd H. of South Carolina, Royal H. of California, and Bobbi W. of Texas, 22 Grandkids, 40 Great Grandkids and several foster children. Edna is preceded in death by brothers: Paul B., Albert B., John B., William B. and Howard "Buzzy" B. and sisters: Luella B., and Mary Ann "Cookie" G. She is dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with the Lord.
Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
