Elmer Womack was born to Pearl Bennett and Benjamin Larkin Womack in Ratcliff, Texas on May 12, 1914. He was called to his heavenly home on April 30, 2012, just 12 days before his 98th birthday.
After graduation from high school he enrolled in Abilene Christian College where he excelled in long distance track. In his words he ran his way through college on a four year scholarship.
Through mutual friends he was introduced to Miss Ardis Sprott of Killeen on a blind date. Elmer and Ardis were married June 1, 1941.
Elmer was then called to duty in the Army Air Corp during World War II. He served in the Philippine Islands.
After the war he worked for Killeen High School teaching World History and Physical Education. He also coached the tumbling team and later served as a truant officer. After his retirement he happily indulged his love of fishing and gardening.
He was selected as the 2nd Comanche Gap Medicine Man and ultimately earned a Stetson full of feathers.
Elmer loved the Lord and served as an elder of the Church of Christ for over 40 years. He was a special friend to children in difficult situations, often seeing to their physical needs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a beloved soninlaw, Archie Manis, four sisters, six brothers and his wife Ardis. He is survived by his daughters, Bennie Manis of Harker Heights, Rebecca Wilks and husband, Ed of Belton, by his son, Mack Womack and wife Kathy of Sugarland, five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Visitation will be at HarperTalasek Funeral Home, 506 N. 38th St. Killeen, TX on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 6 to 8 p. m. Services will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 2:00 p. m. at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Killeen. Burial will follow in the Killeen City Cemetery under direction of HarperTalasek Funeral Home Killeen.
