Servivces for Eloy E. Zárate, 79, of Killeen, Texas will be at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen on Monday, April 6, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. followed by graveside services with full military honors at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery at 12 noon.
Mr. Zárate passed away on March 31, 2015, after a long battle with cancer.
A son of the Rio Grande Valley, Eloy was born on April 26, 1935 in Brownsville, Texas to Constantino and Catalina Zárate.
He was married to Nicolasa Alcantar Zárate on August 15, 1956; they were married 58 years. Eloy enlisted in the U.S. Army on 1956 and retired 20 years later. He later worked for the United States Postal Service in Killeen for 20 years.
Affectionately referred to as Papi , Eloy was a musician, composer, avid cross-word puzzle fan, and squirrel marksman, protector of his pecan trees.
Eloy was preceded in death by his parents, Constantino and Catalina Zárate; brothers, Rene and Constantino Jr.; and sister, Nilda.
Survivors include his wife Nicolasa; his bother Italo and sister Judy; daughters, Laura and Lourdes; son, Alex; and grandchildren, Marcel and Maya Rivarola.
Visitation is from 8-10 am at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen prior to the service.
