Funeral services for Elsie Ernestine Barr, 85, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen. Burial will follow in Killeen City Cemetery.

Mrs. Barr died Jan. 12, 2016, in Harker Heights, returning to her heavenly home peacefully. She was surrounded by her family.

She was the daughter of Julius Guenzel and Anna Merkord Guenzel. She was born Jan. 16, 1930, in Bell County - a day that was anxiously awaited by her siblings, Edwin and Lena Guenzel. She later became the older sister of Edna & Norma Guenzel.

She married William Barr, and they became parents to five children: Charlotte, Richard, Kenneth, Fredrick and Laura. She was blessed with nine grandchildren: Patricia, Angela, Katrina, Brandie, William, Betty, Charity, Matthew and Joseph, and three great grandchildren: Angela, Jennifer, and Billy. Mrs. Barr was adored by her parents, siblings, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones, who celebrate the fact that she is at peace with her creator.

A consummate mother and homemaker, she enjoyed taking care of her family and many other children in the community. She loved to worship and was an active member of Faith Tabernacle in Harker Heights. She was kind and soft-spoken and always encouraged others to explore the beauty of the Bible.

Mrs. Barr was preceded in death by her father, Julius Guenzel; her mother, Anna Merkord Guenzel; her brother, Edwin Guenzel; her husband, William Barr; and her daughter, Charlotte Barr Turo.

Survivors include her sisters, Lena, Edna and Norma; her children, Richard, Kenneth, Fredrick and Laura; her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many other family members.
