Eva Mcalister

Funeral services for Eva Lorene Whitten McAlister, 98, of Abilene, formerly of Killeen, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel with Boyce Edwards officiating. Burial will be at Killeen Memorial Park. Eva died Aug. 15, 2009, at an Abilene nursing center. Eva was born Dec. 13, 1910, at Wills Point. BRBRLorene grew up in Wills Point and McAllen, where she graduated from McAllen High School followed by business college and worked in banks in McAllen, Brownsville and Edinburg. She was also a bookkeeper in Greenville and Refugio. She married James Edward McAlister in October 1938, and adopted his 3-year-old daughter, Zerita. They lived in Russellville, AR., until World War II, then various locations due to Ed's teaching career. They were living in Killeen at the time of Ed's death in 1963. BRBRLorene has lived in Abilene since 1998. She was a faithful member of the Grape St. Church of Christ. With a deep passion for God and the Bible, she taught both adult and children's Bible classes throughout her church life. She was an avid Rummikub and 88 player in Christian Village. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. The family appreciates so much the Coronado staff and Big Country Hospice who took such good care of Lorene. BRBRSurvivors include her daughter, Zerita and her husband, Larry Mann; grandchildren, Jeff and Karen Mann, Linda and Drew Zagorski, Scott and Lezlie Mann and James and Jessica Mann; great-grandchildren, Kristi Mann, Josh Mann, Anna Zagorski and Tess Zagorski, Jaden Mann and Zalie Mann. BRBREva was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward McAlister; parents, Clinton W. Whitten and Daisy Dean Brundidge; brother, C.W. Bud Whitten; two sisters, Opal Tant and Clara White. North 19th St., Abilene, TX 79601; Big Country Hospice, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX, 79605. Visitation is one hour before the service at the funeral home. Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen is in charge of arrangements. BR
