Felix Echevarria-Guasp

Funeral services for Felix EchevarriaGuasp, 75, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Killeen with Pastor Wilfredo Feliciano officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow at Killeen City Cemetery. There will be a reception at Golden Corral in Killeen following graveside services.
Mr. EchevarriaGuasp died March 25, 2014. He was born Jan. 30, 1939, in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, to Etanislao Echevarria and Nemesia Guasp. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in June 1960 at Fort Brooke, Puerto Rico. He proudly served his country for more than 20 years, which included two tours in Vietnam. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1981 at Fort Hood and made Killeen his hometown. He was very talented in the areas of construction, carpentry and anything that needed general repairs. Following retirement, he began purchasing distressed property that he could fix up and to keep busy. He loved people and would go above and beyond to help them in any way possible. No matter what time of day or night, he was there to lend a helping hand. Mr. EchevarriaGuasp was a member of Iglesia Cristiana Monte Sinai in Killeen. He was honored to serve the church and its members in any capacity needed. He loved his church family. He served his community in many ways. He regularly volunteered his time at the Bob Gilmore Senior Center. He also loved music. He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing songs of his native Puerto Rico at gatherings with friends and family. He always had a smile on his face that would light up a room. He was without question one of the most caring, compassionate and loving persons you could ever want to know. Survivors include his commonlaw wife, Sun Weisgerber of Killeen stepdaughter, Shelly Frishman of Killeen daughter, Elvia M. Touron of Massachusetts and brothers, Fortunato and Labislao Echevarria. Memorials may be made to Iglesia Cristiana Monte Sinai.
Visitation is from 4 to 6 p.m. Reception to follow internment at the Buffet Palace, 800 W, CTE, Killeen. Sunday at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements.
