Funeral services for Frances Louise "Toots" (Gallemore) Phipps, 96, of Killeen, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen. Burial will be private.
Mrs. Phipps died Sept. 15, 2016, in Albuquerque, NM. She was born June 29, 1920, in Oklahoma City, Okla. Toots was the youngest of seven children born to William and Maude Gallemore.
She married Wilbur Phipps in 1939. Wilbur was an Army officer so this afforded them an opportunity to live in many states and the Philippines. She and Wilbur returned to Killeen in 1979 after he retired from government service.
She was an athlete from a young age. She was on state championship women's softball teams in both Texas and Oklahoma during the 1930s and 40s. She took up golf in the 1950s and this was her major athletic pursuit until the early 1990s. She was a member of the Killeen East Side Baptist Church since the late 1950s.
The family extends special thanks to the special caregivers who provided excellent care for our mother for a number of years at her home in Killeen and in Albuquerque.
