Funeral services for retired Staff Sergeant Fred Scheafnocker III, 66, of Copperas Cove, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Marys Episcopal Church, 501 S. Chestnut, in Lampasas. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Scheafnocker died October 17, 2010, in a Temple hospital. He was born March 27, 1944, in Brookville, Pennsylvania.
He was born and educated in Brookville, Pennsylvania. He married his wife in October 1961, the same year he entered into the U.S. Army. He retired from the Army at Fort Hood in 1981. Mr. Scheafnocker worked for CCA Communications and also worked for Killeen Glass and Mirror, retiring in 2007. He was a member of DAV Chapter 29, American Legion 573 and Fidelitas Lodge 830.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey Scheafnocker of Copperas Cove son, Gregory S. Scheafnocker of Lampasas daughters, Robin Lynne Scheafnocker of Killeen and Bridget Ann Sellers of Round Rock brothers, William Scheafnocker of Erie, Pennsylvania and Grant U. Scheafnocker of Florida sisters, Alma Gruver of Erie, Pennsylvania and Peggy Newton of Albany, New York four grandchildren, Rene Genevieve Barker of Marysville, Ohio, Dori Renfro of Killeen, Colin and Ethan Scheafnocker, both of Lampasas and two greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick Scheafnocker II and Mildred Scheafnocker.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or St. Marys Episcopal Church in Lampasas.
