Graveside Services for Fredrick Dean “Smokey” Spry, 85, formerly of Killeen, will be at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday at Killeen Memorial Park with Dan Carter officiating.
Mr. Spry died Oct. 29, 2020 in Hutto, Texas.
He was born in South Dakota September 30, 1935. He served 20 years in the Army, which included 3 tours to Germany and 1 to Vietnam. His military awards include: National Defense Service Medal w/ oak Leaf Cluster; Vietnam Service Medal w/ 3 Bronze Service Stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal: Bronze Star Medal: Good Conduct Medal Clasp, Bronze, 4 Loops; Sharpshooter (Rifle).
After retiring as a Sergeant First Class, he went on to own several businesses in Killeen, including Smokey’s Texaco, Smokey’s Auto Repair and Pizza and Things.
He enjoyed traveling by RV and watching the Cowboys, the Rangers, old movies, and loving his grandkids and great grandkids.
Fredrick was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Collins Spry and eldest son Freddie Brian Spry of Waco.
Left behind to cherish his memories are his sons, William Caldwell Spry (Lisa Ruby) of Arkansas; Thomas Gorden Spry (Rosa) of New Braunfels; daughter, Stacey Porter (Timothy) of Hutto; nine grandchildren, Robert, Brian, Kaitlin, Kelsey, Logan, Jordan, Brianna, Pijus and Zach; four great grandchildren, Sterling, Coral, Wren, Sam, and one on the way.
