Funeral services for Gabriel Gonzalez Acosta, 73, of Killeen, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Killeen with Father Adam Martinez officiating. Cremation will follow.
Mr. Acosta died March 26, 2014, in Houston. He was born Aug. 16, 1940, in Torreon, Mexico.
Mr. Acosta played professional baseball in Mexico for the Reysona Broncos. He came to the U.S. and was recruited to play baseball for the Houston Colt 45s. After an unfortunate injury, he became a brick mason and subcontractor. He then married Frances Ortiz. His love for the game kept him in the city leagues for a while.
Mr. Acosta was a dedicated family man and loving husband, father, grandfather and greatgrandfather.
Survivors include his wife sons, Frank Flores and his wife, Cindy, Katy and Dan Flores of Killeen, Candido B. Flores Sr. and Alicia of San Antonio, Beto Acosta and his wife, Tea, of The Woodlands daughter, Vicki Lococo and her husband, Peter, of Friendswood brother, Pasqual Acosta of Mexico sisters, Marta Acosta Gonzalez, Luz AcostaGonzalez, Rebeca AcostaBlanco, all of Mexico grandchildren, Olivia and Catherine Lococo, Candido B. Flores Jr., Alexander J. Flores, Jessica F. Flores, Mayra N. Flores and Daon Acosta and greatgrandchildren, Addison M. Flores, Alexander J. Flores Jr. and Parker G. Lococo.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at the HarperTalasek Funeral Home chapel in Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements.
