Gary Dale Calhoun Sr., 76, of Killeen, Texas, peacefully passed away on Friday, February 21, 2025.
Gary was born on April 5, 1948, in Mansfield, Missouri to Alva Calhoun and Dora Calhoun (Johnson). Growing up as one of eight children, Gary developed a strong independence and regularly did things his way, including being a self-taught mechanic. His passion for automobiles grew to building and fine tuning “Hot Rods”. Gary’s mechanical ability became something of a sixth sense over the years, which lasted until his final days.
A man who never knew a stranger, Gary was always willing to help others and partake in a good conversation. He adored the cowboy culture and thoroughly enjoyed riding his horse and buggy. Most of all, Gary enjoyed being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Gary is survived by his wife Judy, 78, and grandson Prentice, 30, of the home, five children; Alva, 57, and his wife Corinna of Arizona, Chris, 56, and her husband Ken of Illinois, Gary, 53, and his wife Cyndi of Missouri, Taletha, 49, of California, and Tom, 43, and his wife Jennifer of Virginia; 14 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
A memorial will later be held in his hometown, Mansfield, Missouri.
