Educator George Ann Clark Alford of Corinth, Texas, died July 18, 2026. 

George Ann was born October 4, 1932, in Temple Texas to John and Grace Clark. She had a younger sister, Carolyn, and brother, John Jr. They lived in Rosebud, Texas where her dad was a farmer and rural postman, and her mother was an educator. George Ann was an avid reader, reading no less than eight books a week when growing up. She started school at age five and graduated at age sixteen. After high school she attended North Texas State College (now University) and graduated with an English degree at age nineteen. In 1952 she began teaching English in the Killeen School District. A year later she married Bill Alford – also an educator. Bill and George Ann had three sons, Stephen Clark, Thomas Wayne and David Scott, and one daughter, Melanie Ann. George Ann’s teaching career started at Avenue D, continued at Rancier Junior High School, then Nolan Junior High School, and concluded at Ellison High School. In 1962 Bill and George Ann purchased a piece of land a few miles east of Killeen called Comanche Gap and developed a place for families and soldiers to visit. For the next ten years, Comanche Gap was a popular tourist attraction with a zoo, museum, trading post, Wild West and Indian dancing shows, weekly variety shows, and outdoor melodramas. Bill and George Ann were married for 58 years. After Bill’s death in 2011, George Ann moved to Corinth to be near her children and grandchildren. She shared many adventures with them the past fifteen years. 

George Ann was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and her sister, Carolyn. 

She is survived by her brother, John Clark and his wife Linda of Georgetown, son Steve and his wife, Claire, of Southlake, son Tom and his wife, Patty, of Emory, son David of Corinth, and daughter Melanie and her husband, Pat Reed, of Corinth. She has five grandsons, Christopher Clark Alford, Kenneth James Alford, Danny Wesley Alford, Michael Thomas Alford, and Ethan Patrick Reed, one granddaughter, Makena Morgan Reed, one great-granddaughter, Brooke Leanne Alford, and many nieces and nephews. George Ann was a member of the United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and educator. Her family, and the many students she positively influenced, is her legacy. She lived a blessed life.
