Graveside services with full military honors for retired Staff Sgt. Harold F. Smith, 79, of Harker Heights, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with Chaplain Albert Lopez officiating.BRBRHe died Nov. 6, 2007, at his residence.BRBRHarold was born Sept. 21, 1928, in Kansas City, Mo. He lived his early life in Batesville, Ark. Harold joined the U.S. Army in 1945 and served in the Korean War and Vietnam War.BRBRHis awards included: Good Conduct Medal with three bronze loops, National Defense Service with bronze star, Vietnam Service Medal with three service stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal Germany and Japan Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars, United Nations Service Medal and Expert Rifle Badge.BRBRHarold retired in 1970 at Fort Hood. He then went to work for Lone Star Properties for 20 years. He was also a handyman and small engine repairman. Harold was also an avid fisherman who loved dancing.BRBRHe was preceded in death by his wife, Tomie; parents, Roy and Laura Smith; and brother, James.BRBRSurvivors include his son, Roy D. Smith of Dallas; daughter, Jackie S. Lee of Lampasas; brothers, Junior Smith of Maryland, Marvin Smith of Texas, Don and Kenneth Smith, both of Arkansas; sister, Gracie Parrish of Louisiana; grandchildren, Jennifer Lee of Austin, Michael Rinehart of Euless.BRBRThe family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen.BRBRMemorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
