It is with profound sorrow and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and loving wife, Helen Kim Borkowicz. She peacefully passed away at the age of 80 in her home in Harker Heights, Texas on Saturday, December 27th, 2025. Helen was born in South Korea, and she was the eldest of three children. She spent her early years in Cheoungju before moving to Uijeongbu to work at a U.S. military base. It was there that she met and fell in love with her husband, Glenn D. Borkowicz. Together, they moved to the Killeen, TX area to raise their family.
Helen lived a life devoted to supporting her family, nurturing her friendships, and demonstrating her faith in our Lord. She initially worked as a waitress and bartender at various establishments, including the Fort Hood Officers Club. She made her mark as a businesswoman, owning several businesses in Killeen, such as The Jade East Club, O Bok Restaurant & Club, Bando Market, Italia Pizza, and Smoothies & Yogurt in the Killeen Mall. For over 50 years, she happily served her customers, many of whom became longtime regulars and friends.
Helen was a dedicated member of her church for over 30 years and, after retiring, she spent much of her time volunteering for church activities and staying active with both the Killeen Korean American Association and the Killeen Sister Cities Osan, Korea Committee. While many knew her as a strong businesswoman, others saw her kind and compassionate heart, always looking for ways to give to those in need, even if they did not ask for help.
Family preceding Helen in death include her parents and sister and brother, Wan Sun Oh and Wan Sik Kim.
Helen is survived by her loving husband, Glenn, their sons Michael (and wife, Patricia) and David (and wife, Julia), brother-in-law Yong Sik Oh, niece Tina Oh (and husband, Oscar), grandsons Lucas and Brayden, grandnephew Daniel, and several other beloved family members. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew her.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Helen's life. A funeral service will be held at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen, TX, at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 10, 2026, followed by a burial at Killeen Memorial Park. A reception will be held afterward, with details provided at the funeral.
In addition to floral donations for the funeral service, the family welcomes donations to Helen's family, or her church, New Gate Global Methodist Church.
