Funeral Mass for Helena B. Mraz, 86, of Killeen will be at 10:00 AM Monday, March 5, 2012 at St. Josephs Catholic church with Father Adam Martinez officiating. Burial will follow in the Killeen City Cemetery.
A holocaust survivor of Auschwitz, died February 29, 2012 at the age of 86 at home surrounded by her extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Frank J. Mraz, Jr. who died in 1987. She was born in Poland, daughter of the late Karol Mudlaki Popek and Maria Kozlowska Popek. She was a resident of Killeen since 1961. In spite of her holocaust memories, she spoke at schools and organizations and also made documentaries about her experiences in the concentration camp. She never wanted anyone to forget about the holocaust.
Also surviving are a brother and sister, several nieces and nephews in Poland. Surviving is a son, Frank B. Mraz, wife Elizabeth of Bastrop, daughter Christine Baldini and Husband Eugene of PA son Joseph and wife Sylvia of Round Rock. Grandchildren, Ryan Johnson and wife Elizabeth of Austin, Christopher Mraz and wife Jessica of Austin, Stephanie Campbell of Austin, Chance Mraz of Round Rock and Emilie Moticha of Bastrop and a great grandson Nicolas Mraz of Austin.
Helena was preceded in death by two daughters, Cecilia Mraz and Josephine Johnson Campbell and two brothers.
A viewing will be held at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Killeen on March 4, 2012 from 6 to 8 PM with a rosary to be held at 7 PM.
