Horace Holden

January 14, 1947 — March 31, 2016

MSG (RET) Horace W. Holden, a hard working devoted family man, went home, March 31, 2016. Horace was born in Shreveport, LA. to Willie D Holden and Levada D. Williams on January 14, 1947. His family moved to St. Louis, MO; where he was educated. He joined the US Army in 1967. His many duty stations included combat tour to Vietnam where he earned many of his awards including, the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/OLC, Army Achievement Medal w/OLC, Good Conduct Medal w/ Silver Loop, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), Vietnam Service Medal w/3 Bronze Stars, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon w Number 2, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation w/ Palm, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Expert Rifle Badge. Horace retired from the Army in 1987 and went to work as Supervisor for the Fleet Maintenance Department for the city of Harker Heights, TX; retiring in 2015.

Horace became very well known for his contributions and assistance to the Boy Scouts and his work with at risk youth serving as a mentor and role model. He was a member of The Greater Vision Community Church and The Noon Lyons Club. An avid fisherman, he also enjoyed playing spades with his friends.

Horace leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Shirley, children, Horace Holden JR, Houston, TX; Carol Ford, Killeen, Geana Brown, San Antonio, Erica Sheade, Scottsdale, AZ; Katrina Titus, Harker Heights, Linda Rothey, Dallas; brothers, Reverend Emanuel Paul, St. Louis, Mo; Charles Paul, Houston, Aaron Paul, St. Louis, Mo; grandchildren; Janea Smoot, Haley and Gavyn Keyser, Mykah and Myles Brown, Matthew, Eliana, And Calvin Sheade, Rachel Titus; great-grandchildren, Tyrell Bosley, Kendall King, Jayell and Royal Hicks.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild.

Services were held on April 8th, 2016, 11:00 AM, at the Greater Vision Community Church with Pastor David G. Reynolds officiating and burial at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors under the direction of Harper- Talasek Funeral Home.
