A funeral Mass for Isaac Gaspard, 89, of Nolanville, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Adam Martinez officiating. Burial will follow at Killeen Memorial Park.
Mr. Gaspard died Feb. 1, 2014. He was born May 2, 1924, in Vermilion Parish, in close proximity to Abbeville, La., to Paul and Rene Gaspard
He served his country in World War II, as a veteran of DDay and many battles, including the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from the U.S. Army as a master sergeant after 23 years of service. He continued as a civil servant for the Department of the Army and completed his service to his country after 45 years.
Mr. Gaspard also served his community as mayor pro tem, council member, athletic director, and planning and zoning commissioner for the city of Nolanville. He also served as a Bible study facilitator for 25 years at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Killeen.
Mr. Gaspard was married to the love of his life, Helen Hargrave, on Aug. 15, 1950. He was blessed with five children, Jeffery, Michael, Barbara, Charlene and Vickie. He had further blessings with 17 grandchildren and 38 greatgrandchildren.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday with a rosary at 7 p.m. at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements.
