James Earl Thomas was born on February 2, 1946 to the late James D. and Ada Peoples Thomas. He completed high school and entered the United States Army. While in the Army, James served his country by participating in the Vietnam conflict.
His military awards include: Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal w1 oak leaf cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal w silver loop, National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal w three bronze service stars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry wpalm, NCO Professional Development Ribbon w numeral 3, Army Achievement Medal w2 oak leaf clusters, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Badge wrifle and missile bar.
He retired in 1985 here in Harker Heights, Texas after being stationed at Fort Hood. James worked for Sears automotive for 14 years; an avid auto mechanic and later a computer technician. He had also achieved an Associates Degree in Auto Mechanics.
He leaves to cherished memories his wife, Mary Thomas; Harker Heights, TX; two sons, Kenneth D. Thomas, Harker Heights, TX; James C. Thomas, his fiance Christina Poulin, Killeen, TX; a brother, Lionel Thomas, Irvington, NJ; three sisters, Hazel Lee Williams and husband Joseph, Colonial Heights, VA; Linda Roberson, Skippers, VA; Bracela Wright, Richmond, VA; five grandchildren: Roman Clark, Kenneth D. Thomas JR, Candice Thomas, Kenisha Thomas, and Isaac Clark; four great-grandchildren, Tyliah and Tyshaun, Clark; Kentrell and Destiny Thomas; One niece Jackie Garland and one great niece Lashaunda Garland, and a host of cousins.
