Janie Mozelle Blackwell of Killeen, 91, passed away on September 1, 2014.
Visitation: Friday, September 5, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at HarperTalasek Chapel
Funeral: Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Church of Christ
Mozelle Blackwell was born March 10, 1923 in Bell County, the second of four children of J.D. and Lopha Ratliff Slawson. She was a lifelong resident of Killeen and a longtime member of the Killeen Church of Christ. Mozelle was an avid NFL fan and eagerly waited for the football season to watch her beloved Dallas Cowboys. She, also, never missed her favorite soap, General Hospital her friends knew not to call between 2 3 weekdays A 1941 graduate of Killeen High, she later graduated from Kings Daughters Hospital as a Licensed Vocational Nurse and worked in several clinics, nursing homes, and provided inhome child care. She and a close friend operated a hamburger stand across from the old Rancier School in the 1950s.
The family would love to thank the fantastic staff at the Rosewood Care Center where she has spent six years and became a family to her. The tender loving care given to Ms Janie goes above and beyond what is normally expected. Also special thanks to Gentiva Hospice who helped Mom and our family deal with the last part of her journey in life.
She was preceded in death by her parents a sister, Louise Goodnight a brother, J.D. Slawson Jr. a grandson, Chad Blackwell and husband Dorman Blackwell.
Survivors: Children, Kenneth Jack Blackwell of Troy Joe Blackwell and his wife Janita of Bedford Bill Blackwell and his wife Becky of Ada, OK James and his wife Bonita of Sterling Heights, MI a brother, Bill Slawson and his wife Martha of Powderly, TX 10 grandchildren 5 greatgrandchildren and 1 greatgreatgrandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
