Jerry Harp

March 31, 1940 — March 1, 2017

Jerry Lynn Harp was one of three children born to the late Leonard and Alma Harp and was the beloved husband of Barbara Harp.

He was born on March 31, 1940 in the small north Texas town of Gunter. His family later moved to Gainesville where he graduated from Gainesville High School in 1958.

He then joined the U.S. Army where his life would be forever changed. Towards the end of June 1961, he met Barbara Ann Priest, a Yankee and the love of his life, at a USO dance in New Jersey. After a whirlwind courtship, they married on August 4, 1961. They were married for 40 years and were the loving parents of two children.

He retired from the Army after 22 years of distinguished service, serving multiple tours overseas including two tours in Vietnam. He then served as an Animal Control Officer for the city of Killen for 15 years before retiring.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Alma Harp, his brother Ronnie Harp Sr., his sister Peggy Llyod, and his beloved wife Barbara.

He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter and son-in-law Deborah and Wayne Holloway, his son Kenneth Harp, his grandsons David and Bryan Holloway, his brother-in-law Dale Lloyd, his brother and sister-in-law Richard and Becky Priest, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Jerry touched the lives of many people with his generosity and concern for others. He loved the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, and his family. He will be missed.
