Graveside services for Joe Parks Carroll, 76, of Killeen will be held on Friday at the Killeen City Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Roy Smith.
Mr. Carroll died Monday, April 11th, at his home in Killeen with family and friends.
He was born November 21, 1934 in Florence, Texas. He was a graduate of Killeen High School in 1954 and married Ruby Jean Phillips in 1955 in Killeen.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 19571959. He was a sergeant and a weapons specialist.
In 1960, he moved to Harker Heights and started a grocery business of Hilltop DriveIn with longtime friend Pat Kern. Mr. Carroll started Harker Heights Fire Department and served as Fire Chief in the 1960s, and he joined the Harker Heights Police Department and served as a reserve officer for 21 years. He served two terms on the city council of Harker Heights.
Mr. Carroll owned and operated CC Gun Shop in Killeen. He worked at Heights Lumber for 15 years with Commercial Business Sales.
Mr. Carroll was a lifetime member of the NRA and served as a tribal elder with the Comanche Gap Medicine Men.
Survivors include his wife Ruby Carroll, son James Carroll, daughter Charlotte Carroll, and his two beloved furry friends Willie and Dolly Do.
Visitation will be held at HarperTalasek from 6:008:00 P.M. Thursday.
