SFC Joe A. Poe, 77, passed away suddenly at his home in Killeen, TX, on February 17, 2024. Services will be held at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church in Harker Heights, TX. Visitation will be on March 12, 2024, from 6-8 pm. Funeral Mass will be on March 13, 2024, at 11 am, with graveside services to immediately follow at Central Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery.
Mr. Poe was born in 1945 to Earl and Beulah (McCarty) Poe in Marion, IN. and grew up in New Paris, IN. He graduated from Stuttgart High School in Germany before attending MEC 132 Big Bend Community College in Washington. Joe retired from the U.S. Army with many honors and awards/medals. His dedication to his commitments was unyielding. He served in Vietnam, Korea, and Germany. Joe spent much of his time as a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Disabled American Veterans, and the American Legion. In what free time he had, he loved to restore old vehicles, travel, and help those around him. He was an avid animal lover, having had many animals throughout his life.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters: Nellie Jane, Betty Jean, and Rosemary Poe.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Nan (Ok) Poe; two daughters, Tammie (Jeff) Knight and Joetta Howell; two sisters, Rita Moore, and Kathy (Albert) Livings; one brother, Paul Poe; 6 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and his furry, faithful friend, Toughie.
