Services for Joe Ray White will be Tuesday at 10 AM at Harper-Talasek Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at the Killeen City Cemetery. Joe passed away October 29, 2015 surrounded by his family. Joe was born March 7, 1935 in Calhoun, LA to Ruth and Ernest McKay White. He graduated from Calhoun High School in 1954, where he played basketball and was named All-State his senior year. He attended Louisiana Tech, where he played basketball, from 1955 to 1957. He was drafted into the Army in 1957, where he served for two years stationed at Ft. Hood. During his time at Ft. Hood, he played basketball for the Ft. Hood Tankers and met and married Jo Ann Barnes. They had two beautiful daughters, Kimberly and Rae Ann. He worked for the Killeen Fire Department, after leaving the military. He retired from mechanics in Civil Service in 1971. and decided to go back and finish his Associate's degree from Central Texas College, and graduated in May of 1979. Later in life, he enjoyed spending time with his dog, Little Bit, golfing, watching basketball, and Westerns. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife Jo Ann White, of Killeen, daughters Kimberly Higginbotham and husband Ernie, of Killeen, Rae Ann Byrd and husband, Blake, of Waco, grandchildren; Tiffany Bralley and husband James D of Harker Heights, Amanda Lindsey and husband Eric, of Georgetown, Dustin Byrd and wife Ashley, Waco, great-grandchildren, Jackson Lindsey, Alexa Lindsey, James Hudson Bralley; sisters Shirley Huey and husband Jack of West Monroe, LA; Wanda Amezcua and husband Bill of Upper Marlboro, MD; Nina Collins and husband Jim of Duncannon, PA. Pallbearers are Danny White, Ronald Huey, Dustin Byrd, Carl Taylor, Jeffery Taylor, Victor Caldwell. Honorary pallbearers are Travis Morgan, Harvey Bales, Gerald Curry, Kenneth Cason, Glenn Davis and Lonnie Walker. Visitation will be Monday from 5-7PM will be at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home, Killeen.
