John Bernardy

Funeral services for John M. Bernardy, 61, of Killeen, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Adam Martinez officiating. Interment will follow at Killeen Memorial Park in Killeen.BRBRHe died Nov. 10, 2007, in a Temple hospital.BRBRJohn was born Sept. 16, 1946, in Paragould, Ark. He attended Southwest Texas State University and received a bachelor's degree in history and accounting.BRBRHe married Linda Petkovich in 1973 in San Marcos. John was an elementary school teacher. He taught third-, fourth- and fifth-grade math in the Killeen Independent School District. He owned and operated Central Bookkeeping Service.BRBRJohn has lived in Killeen since 1976. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus St. Joseph's Council 4724 serving as past Grand Knight, Father Weber Assembly 1532 and Faithful Navigator.BRBRIn 1995 he and his family were honored as the Knights of Columbus Family of the Year. John also was a member of the Killeen Chamber of Commerce.BRBRHe was preceded in death by his parents, Oswald and Lola Bernardy; and a brother, Thomas.BRBRSurvivors include his wife, Linda of Killeen; sons, Shawn T. Bernardy of College Station and David C. Bernardy of Killeen; daughters, Dr. Michelle L. Bernardy of Galveston and Teresa R. Bernardy of Killeen.BRBRThe family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with a rosary at 7 p.m.BRBRMemorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus or St. Joseph Catholic Church.BRBRHarper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen is in charge of the arrangements.
