John Gery Reeves, 74, of Killeen, Texas, passed away on September 10, 2026.

John was born on July 8, 1952, in Birmingham, Alabama, to James Mason Reeves and Edith Reeves Tuck. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and proudly served in the United States Army before retiring from military service. He went on to dedicate 19 years of his career to the Texas Department of Corrections before retiring from state service.

John had a lifelong appreciation for classic cars and enjoyed cars, trucks, and restoring them. In his younger years, he was also an avid runner and enjoyed staying active. He was a passionate history enthusiast with a particular interest in World War II. Among his favorite shows were The Twilight Zone and Hogan’s Heroes. John was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and School, where his faith and church community were an important part of his life.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Suzy Reeves; his brother, Jeffrey Reeves; and his sister, Ellen Roberts.Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Audrey Butry and Amanda Reeves; his brothers, James “Speedy” Reeves and Kevin Reeves; his sister, Linda Amundson; and his grandchildren, Joseph Butry, Bryan Butry, and Savannah Baumagaertel. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, along with extended family and friends who will remember him fondly and cherish the many memories they shared.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hope and Grace Hospice, Inc. and Fairway Vista Assisted Living in Round Rock, Texas, for the exceptional care, compassion, and kindness they provided to John and his family. Their support and dedication meant so much during this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Grace Lutheran Church and School.John’s family will carry his memory with them and cherish the years they were blessed to share with him.

A visitation will take place on Monday, September 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen, Texas. A graveside service will take place at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery on Tuesday, September 22, at 10 a.m., where John will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Suzy.
