Joseph Pruitt

Funeral services for retired Sgt. 1st Class Joseph R. Pruitt, 71, of Killeen, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church in Harker Heights. Interment with full military honors will follow at noon at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

Mr. Pruitt died July 18, 2015, at a local hospital. He was born July 14, 1944, in Tampa, Fla.

He was educated in Tampa. He served 20 years in the U.S. Army, with combat tours in Vietnam, retiring at Fort Hood in 1987. His medals include the Good Conduct Medal, second award; National Defense Service Medal; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm and Driver's Badge.

After retirement, he worked for the Lockheed Corporation at Fort Hood.

Survivors include his wife, Pan Sun of Killeen; brother, James Pruitt of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements.
