Karl Fuerbacher

Funeral services with full military honors for retired Sgt. Maj. Karl W. Fuerbacher, 71, of Killeen, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with a U.S. Army chaplain officiating. Mr. Fuerbacher died March 23, 2010, at a Temple hospital.

He was born Dec. 5, 1938, in Germany. He moved to the United States in 1957. He joined the U.S. Army in 1964, and served three tours in the Vietnam War. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal ninth award, National Defense Service with bronze star, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with No. 7, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and Expert Rifle Badge. He retired in 1992, after 28 years of service at Fort Lewis, Wash. He then moved to Killeen in 1996 and was a member of DAV Chapter 147 in Killeen and VFW Post 3892 in Harker Heights.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Kim of Killeen brother, Fritz Fuerbacher of Germany and sister, Ingeborg Ranch of Germany.
