Karolina Chervanick, 94, of Killeen, passed away on June 10, 2024. Services will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen with a visitation beginning at 10 am, funeral service at 11:30 am, with burial to follow at Killeen Memorial Park.
Mrs. Chervanick was born on Nov. 1, 1929, in Czechoslovakia to Joseph and Emilie Cech. Due to the post war chaos, she was moved to Austrian D.P. Camp, and from there to Germany where she met and married S.G.M. Albert J. Chervanick. He brought her to his hometown Shamokin, PA, while he served one year in Vietnam. Aside writing daily letters to him, she got to know all her new relatives and acquired her U.S. citizenship; after returning from Vietnam, they went back to Frankfurt, Germany and in 1973 came to retire in Fort Hood to make their home in Killeen.
Mrs. Chervanick was an inactive member of the Killeen Volunteer Fire Department, supporting the T.S.T.A. and animal shelters.
Mrs. Chervanick was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Albert Chervanick; sister, Rosl Holzschuh; daughter, Karen Getz; and grandson, Robert Prentiss.
Those left to cherish her memory include her nieces, Sibylle Kretz, Gabriele Nohe, and Angelika Stuhl and their families in Germany; granddaughters, Donna Thompson and Kimberly Getz; grandson, Donald Getz Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Amber Wagner, Clyde Thompson Jr., Amy Getz, Kevin Getz, Kieth Getz, Ashlee Getz, Paul Temple, and Brian Temple; and her faithful confidant, Patricia Masto.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Killeen Volunteer Fire Department.
