Kenneth Cox

September 23, 1926 — October 7, 2013

Funeral services for retired 1st Sgt. Kenneth B. Cox, 87, of Killeen, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at HarperTalasek Chapel in Killeen with the Rev. Jeff Miller officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Nolanville. Pallbearers are Wayne Orange, Tony Orange, Robert P. Asher, Richard Orange, Ryan Lamphear, and Blake Brunson.

Mr. Cox died Oct. 7, 2013. He was born Sept. 23, 1926, in Sanders, Ky., to Louise Godman and Charlie Cox

He served in the U.S. Army for 27 years, where he received the following awards: Bronze Star Medal, third award Army Commendation Medal, third award Good Conduct Medal, sixth award, with one silver loop U.S. Army Occupation Medal, with clasp Germany and Japan with Berlin Air Lift Device American Campaign Medal World War II Victory Medal National Defense Service Medal with oak leaf cluster Vietnam Service Medal Korean Service Medal, with five bronze stars Vietnam Service Medal United Nations Service Medal Korean War service Medal Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with two bronze stars Army Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters, third award Vietnamese Gallantry Cross with palm Vietnamese civil actions medal first class Presidential Unit Emblem Expert pistol numerous Letters of Commendation Meritorious Unit Emblem, third award Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Badge lapel button.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, uncle and brother to many. He will be dearly missed.

Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his parents, Louise GodmanChilders and Charlie Cox of Warsaw, Ky. and son, Darrell Orange Sr. of Harker Heights.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cox sons, Herman Orange Jr. of Greenville and William E. Orange of Killeen daughters, Katherine Asher of Harker Heights, Susan Lamphear of Cedar Park and Patricia Brunson of Harker Heights adopted son, Darrell Orange Jr. of Madison, Wis. and numerous extended family members.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at HarperTalasek Funeral Home in Killeen, which is in charge of arrangements.
