Visitation for Alonzo Pierce, 100, of Killeen, will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home on Monday, October 26, 2016.
Alonzo Roy Pierce, the youngest of ten children, was born on July 13, 1915, to the late W.D. and Emma Pierce in Charleston, Arkansas.
He entered the Army in July, 1939 immediately after graduation from Quachita College, AR. He was happily married to the former Miss Lorene Craft in1941She died July 30, 2008.
As a World War II era soldier he served in both Europe and Korea he served twenty years, before retiring at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
His military awards include; American Defense Service Medal; WWII Victory Medal; Combat Infantry Badge w/Star; European African Middle-Eastern Camp Medal w/Silver Star; Bronze Star Medal; Army Occupation Medal (Germany); Korean Service Medal w/Silver Star & one Bronze Service Star; Merit Unit Emblem; Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation; United Nations Service Medal; American Theatre Ribbon; Armed Forces Reserve Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Presidential Unit Citation.
After retiring from the Army, Alonzo enjoyed life as a successful businessman when he started A.R. Pierce Real Estate Company. He later retired to his hobby of growing pecan and fruit trees and vegetable gardens. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Killeen and Killeen Noon Lions Club.
He is survived by his two children: Raymond Pierce of Fort Worth and Ann Perius of Killeen;
one grandchild, Pebble Jo (Donald) Loring; and two great-grandchildren, Ciara and Lucy Loring.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Killeen.
