Harrold Eugene Rice, 79, of Killeen, Texas, died December 5, 2010. He was born December 27, 1930, in El Dorado, Kansas, the son of the late Charles and Maize Rice.

He was the youngest of 7 siblings. On December 29, 1950, he married Joy Marie Umstot deceased in Wichita, Kansas. He graduated from Wichita State University in 1953, and was commissioned an officer in the U.S. Army. Harrold is a veteran of the Vietnam War where he earned several medals including: the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and Meritorious Service Award. After his retirement in 1976 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, he became the Senior Army Instructor for Benson High School JROTC in Omaha, NE, retiring in 1989.

He and his wife moved to Killeen, Texas in 1992 to pursue retirement and travel. Both were active in Special Military Active Retired Travel Club SMART where he served as National President. Harrold was a very active and well recognized member of many Masonic organizations. As a young man he belonged to the Order of DeMolay and received the Degree of Chevalier. Later in life he would be honored by being made an active member of the Legion of Honor. He was a 50year member of the Masonic Lodge with membership in Killeen Lodge 1125 AFAM. As a member of the Waco Scottish Rite Bodies, he was created a Knight Commander of the Cross of Honor. Hal was also active in the Karem Shrine Temple and National Soujouners.

He is survived by his daughter and soninlaw, Jody and David Gough of Yutan, NE son, Lloyd Rice of Richardson, TX son, Gary Rice of Killeen, TX and son and daughterinlaw, Kevin and Marcy Rice of Murfreesboro, TN. Mr. Rice is also survived by a sister, Margie Seymour of Peabody, KS, 9 grandchildren, 8 greatgrandchildren, and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be this Saturday at 11am followed by services at 12 noon at HarperTalasek Funeral Home. Immediately following, he will be interred at Killeen Memorial Park with Military Honors and Masonic Graveside services.
