Services for Luther Ervin Duncan, 80, of Killeen will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen, with the Rev. Weldon Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at Maxdale Community Cemetery.BRBRLuther passed away Nov. 28, 2008, in a Temple hospital. He was born Oct. 12, 1928, in Maxdale, to Luther Vasco Duncan and Cleo Beatrice May. Luther married his lifetime love, Pennie Bell Adams, on Aug, 5, 1950, in Austin, in a double-ring ceremony along with his lifelong friend, Clyde Eldon Johnson and Jimmie Mae Adams, sister of Pennie.BRBRHe lived in Bell County for all but seven years of his life. He began work at Camp Hood on Nov. 28, 1947. He went from beginning at the Rail Head, to becoming light equipment operator; and he was a supervisor over roads and grounds. He worked there for 37 years, retiring in 1984. He was also caretaker of Maxdale Community Cemetery for 25 years.BRBRLuther was preceded in death by his wife, Pennie; his parents, Vasco and Cleo Duncan; and two brothers, Billy Ray Duncan and Jimmy Darrell Duncan.
BRHe is survived by one daughter, Belinda Kay Kelly and her husband, Rickey, of Killeen; one son, Barry Lynn Duncan and his wife, Louann, of Killeen; his grandchildren, Dawn Michelle Ellis, Marci Rene Arldt, Jennifer Denise Leverton, Barry Lynn Duncan Jr., John Wesley Duncan, Stephen Travis Pearson, Rickey Kelly Jr. and Katy Leigh Keller; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Winnona Aileen Quackenbush and her husband, Carl, of Harker Heights; his brothers, Stacey N. Duncan and his wife, Carlene, of Killeen and LC Duncan and his wife, Emma, of Florence; his sister-in-law, Ruth Duncan; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.BRBRFamily and friends are invited to join them at Ervin's home after the service in Maxdale for a little Porch Time in his honor.BRBRThe family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Killeen.BRBR
