Margit Johnson

Margit Johnson, age 79 of Killeen, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 20 at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen beginning at 2 pm with burial to follow at Killeen City Cemetery.

Margit was born on August 5, 1944, in Asch, Germany to parents Josef Guntner and Maria (Weis) Guntner. On March 20, 1964, she married Verle Duane Johnson and moved to America. They were together until his passing in 1993. After coming to America, Margit received her GED from Central Texas College and spent many years working for Mickey’s throughout the area of Killeen. She also spent time working at the PX, serving other local military families.

Margit loved spending her time outdoors tending to her yard and fishing. She enjoyed listening to German Polka music, playing the slot machines, and settling down with a simple but tasty dinner of steak and potatoes. Margit was very meticulous in everything she did, ensuring an attention to detail many could not compare to.

Margit is preceded in death by her parents, Josef Guntner and Maria Guntner; husband, Verle Duane Johnson; and brother, Hermann Guntner.

Those left to cherish her memory include her sister, Ilse Walsh; son, Richard Johnson of Virginina; daughter Sandy Brown of Texas; grandchildren, Billy Vehse and Brian Vehse; and great-grandchildren, Aubrey Vehse and Wyatt Vehse.
