Marlene P. Kremer, 87, of Killeen passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024 with family at her side. She was born on June 28, 1937 in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania to Malcolm and Ann Clevenstine (Luscri).
Marlene spent her early years in Pennsylvania with her older sister Shirley, then moved to Baltimore, Maryland in 1943 where her younger brother “Mac” was born. Marlene’s family then moved to Youngstown, Ohio where her father became a restaurateur and she worked in the family business. After graduating from South High School in 1955, she began a career in fashion as an assistant buyer for The Halle Bros. Co. in Cleveland, Ohio.
While visiting her sister in San Antonio in 1967, Marlene met the love of her life Curtis “Curt” Kremer. They were married and became lifelong residents of Killeen, Texas, where Curt rose to the rank of deputy chief for the Killeen Fire Department. Marlene worked as a teller for First National Bank and in retail merchandising. The couple also owned and operated Kremer’s Self-Service Conoco Station along with the Early Bird Car Wash in 1968 and opened two additional U-Pump-Um gas stations in the 1970’s.
Marlene’s other passions were caring for her roses, doting on her Dobermans and collecting Hummel figurines. Her greatest joy was her family and lifelong friends, including those dear to her from the Killeen Fire Department and her Sunday church group. She had a bright smile and warmth that captured your attention and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, Malcolm and Ann Clevenstine; husband, Curtis W. Kremer; siblings, Shirley Mehl and Malcolm “Mac” Clevenstine Jr.; and nephew, Brent Mehl.
