Marvin Philpot, 89, passed from this life on July 15, 2025. Graveside service with full military honors will be at 9 am at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX on Wednesday, July 23.
Marvin Philpot was born in Manchester, KY on November 5, 1935, to Bradley Philpot and Mary (Bishop) Philpot. He was the eldest of 8 children.
He joined the U.S. Army and began many years of travel that took him around the world. He met his wife, Un Cha, the first time he was stationed in Korea, and married her in 1963 during his second rotation there. He earned his B.S. in Mathematics at the University of Kentucky which segued into his work with computers with the Army. He also received a minor in German. During his enlistment he received the following honors: the Army Commendation Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle), Expert (Rifle), National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal Clasp, Bronze, 4 Loops. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1980 and began a second career working as a defense contractor for PRC, Abacus, and Lockheed Martin.
Marvin enjoyed new experiences and learning his entire life. He took many additional courses just to learn well into retirement. He passed his love of travel and exploration and learning to his daughter.
Marvin is preceded in death by his father Bradley Philpot, mother Mary (Bishop) Philpot, brother Gordon Philpot and his sisters, Patricia Philpot DeBord and Brenda Risner.
He is survived by his wife, Un Cha Philpot, his brothers Carl Philpot, Jim Philpot, and Donald Philpot, his sister, Janet Philpot, his daughter, Leslie Dalla Rosa, and his grandson, Brandon Dalla Rosa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Christian Appalachian Project or NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council).
