Michael Daniel Turo, age 76, of Killeen, passed from this life on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, in Waco, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Killeen. Burial will follow in Killeen City Cemetery.

 Michael was born on May 17, 1948, to Arthur J. Turo and Mary Frances Fitzmaurice in Syracuse, New York. He retired as Deputy Chief Fire Marshal for the city of Killeen, dedicating his career to the safety and well-being of his community. Michael also volunteered for the Red Cross and worked at Ground Zero after September 11, assisting with the aftermath of the tragedy. He provided aid during many natural disasters and was an active volunteer at the VFW. He cherished family get-togethers, loved cooking out, and created a beloved program called Santa Pal, which provided children in the area with Christmas toys.

 Michael is preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, Charlotte Barr; his brother, Anthony J. Turo; and his brother-in-law, Kenneth Barr.

 He is survived by his daughters, Angela Jackson, and Patricia Bumgardner and her husband, Charles; his sister, Pat Stevens; his four grandchildren, Angela Koestens, Jennifer Koestens, Amber Giegling, and Andrew Bumgardner; his brothers-in-law, Frederick Barr and Richard Barr; his sisters-in-law, Laura Gardner and Audrey Turo; and a host of nieces and nephews.

 A time of visitation will be held from 5 – 7 pm on Friday, July 5, 2024, at the funeral home.

 Michael’s legacy of service, love for family, and dedication to his community will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
